Color Contrast in Men – Low, Medium, and High Contrast.

Have you ever heard of the term color contrast? You might say yes, the difference between 2 colors is called contrast right? It’s correct but that’s not what I meant.

The color contrast that I am talking about is related to our body, not other things like clothing.

Of course, we’ll talk about how to dress for color contrast in men. But first, let’s understand what color contrast is and how to wear clothes according to color contrast.

What is Color Contrast in Grooming:

Color contrast means the difference of shades of color that’s the best way to put it. Now apply this concept to our skin, eye color and hair color.

Because, these 3 are the determining factors for color contrast in men, with these we will determine in which category one falls either high, low, or medium contrast.

don’t get confused with color complexion and color contrast they both differ, you can learn about color-complexion here.

3 determining factors for color contrast in men:

As pointed out earlier, by understanding your skin color, eye color, and hair color you can determine which category you fall under.

The 3 types of contrast in men are, namely:

High contrast Men:

High contrast means exhibiting the difference between your hair color, eye color, and the color of your skin.

In High contrast men, the person’s hair is black, eyes are also black and the skin tone is white. So, you have to wear clothes that give a contrast between your skin tone.

Medium contrast Men:

Guys with black hair, black eyes and brown skin tone fall under the medium contrast.

So, the key here is to maintain the contrast between skin color and the clothes you wear to make your face look more highlighted.

Low contrast Men:

Low contrast on the other hand is quiet different. If a person’s hair is blonde and his skin tone is white and have a blue eyes, then that person likely to have low contrast complexion.

so, dress according to the complexion to look good.

The persons with red hair and even bald head with blue eyes are also considered low contrast.

Why we need to know about contrast:

To be frank there is no great deal of significance in following the color complexion in men. It is useful when you want to take your style to the next level. So, if you want to do it keep the below point in mind.

I said you need to maintain contrast between the clothes you wear and skin tone you have right! What happens if you do not follow this rule.

Suppose, assume that you have a brown skin tone, you wore a brown color shirt what happens? The shirt you wear blends with your skin and you will look odd.

In other words, when someone watches you their attention shifts to the clothes itself, not your face this is the rule you have to follow while dressing.

So, lets look at how to dress for the contrasts.

How to dress for High contrast:

As we discussed earlier, you need to maintain a difference of colors between the clothes you wear.

Your skin tone makes others focus on your face rather than your clothes. So, here is a guide to how to dress for high contrast.

In this your shirt plays a huge role, due to its color gets reflected on your face, blue shirt looks good on high contrast men as this easily contrasts with the skin tone.

On the other hand, if you want to wear a white shirt you need to layer it with a neutral color blazer as this adds contrast to your outfit.

See, I have taken it as an example, the key here is note that you need to maintain contrast between the clothing that’s it. Then you can experiment with any color clothing.

How to dress for Low contrast:

Low contrast men appearance generally look muted, so you need to maintain more contrast between your clothing.

That’s why low-contrast men have to wear the opposite of what high-contrast men wear.

I would say low contrast dressing is pretty straightforward, as your skin tone and hair color is light so simply wear slightly darker tones for better appearance like dark blues, charcoal grays and even black.

Monochromatic also looks great on low contrast men, wonder what a monochromatic mean, it means wearing same colored shirt and pant.

But keep in mind that you need to opt for slightly darker colors for pulling off a monochromatic dressing for low-contrast men.

Again there is no particular rule to wear only this color of clothing, I have put forward this to take your styling to next level that’s it, otherwise it’s up to you.

How to dress for Medium contrast men:

Medium contrast is the most versatile of the 3 contrast types because you can mix and match almost any color.

If you opt for brighter colors you will look good on those clothes or if you opt for darker clothes you will look good in them as well. It is evident that neutral colors looks good on this contrast too.

The only exception is that try to avoid colors that blend with your skin tone like your browns, olives.

Because your skin color matches with these colored clothes and blends in, instead opt for navy blue and gray which brings contrast to your outfit.

Even if you want to wear those browns or olives try to layer it up with a jacket or any other overcoats.

Experiment with the wide range of colors for breaking the monotony and stay stylized often times.
